Introduction:

Dr. Werbel will teach American studies and American art and architecture this year to both undergraduate and graduate students at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. As a student, she majored in art history, with a specialization in American painting at both Harvard College ('86) and Yale University (PhD, '96). Her research interests have become much more interdisciplinary since that time, and currently her work focuses on the history of censorship of visual culture in the United States. In China, she hopes to observe and compare the Chinese experience of censorship with American’s.
