School of Electronic and Computer Engineering

The School of Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE) was founded in 2002 in order to combine Peking University's strength in the computer and information engineering field with Shenzhen's advantages in the IT industry. The school is exploring a new pattern of collaboration between university, industry and government.

ECE offers MS and PhD degrees in Microelectronics and Solid-State Electronics, Integrated Circuits and Systems and Computer Applications Technology. Research areas include among others: Nano-Electronic Devices and Integration Technology; Systems on a Chip (SOC); Micro-Electromechanical Systems (MEMS) Technology; SOC Design Verification and Testing: Network Communication and Information Security; Multimedia Technology; Network Information Engineering; Human-Computer Interaction; and Robotic Systems. ECE, in accordance with the university's academic principles, has established the Strategic Lab of Integrated Micro-System Engineering & Applications (SLIMSEA) and Shenzhen Key Lab for Cloud Computing Technology & Applications.

ECE has been devoted since its founding to research and education collaboration with numerous leading enterprises and research institutions in the Pearl River Delta region. In addition, ECE has acquired extensive support from the governments of Shenzhen, the province of Guangdong and China. It took part in the Innovation Consortium of Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Guangdong Industrial and Academic Institutions.

ECE has graduated, to date, over 500 MS and PhD students with specializations in Microelectronics, Integrated Circuits Design, and Computer Applications Technology. Most graduates are now leading engineers in high-tech companies in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing. There are currently over 500 graduate students enrolled in ECE.

The Key Laboratory of Integrated Microsystems
The Key Laboratory of Integrated Microsystems (IMS) attached to the School of Computer and Information Engineering was established in 2005 on the grounds of academic research in Microelectronics. IMS Laboratory’s research focuses on Micro-Nano Electronic Devices and Integration Technology, Integrated Circuit Design, Intellectual Property and Systems on a Chip (SOC). It aims to build a research and development platform to enhance the industrial competitiveness of the Integrated Circuit (IC) industry in Shenzhen and in China and cultivate excellence in the microelectronic field.

The laboratory encourages innovation and has made significant achievements in micro-nano electronics model simulation, IC methodologies, SOC design and system applications, Internet Portal (IP) research and integration, and IC Verification and testing. Currently, there are 132 national patent applications (of which 31 have been approved) and 11 international PCT patent applications. In 2009, the Shenzhen municipal government awarded IMS laboratory prestigious recognition for its outstanding achievements.

The Shenzhen Key Laboratory for Cloud Computing Technology and Applications

The laboratory, belonging to the School of Electronic and Computer Engineering, was approved in August 2010. The laboratory’s research focuses on the following four areas: virtualization and applications in e-commerce, mass data storage and mining in the cloud-database, cloud media services for the next generation of broadcast networks (NGB) and cloud computing network infrastructure. The laboratory has made a number of scientific achievements in the area of search engines and Peer to Peer (P2P), cloud computing and virtualization, triple network integration, mobile internet and the internet of things.
