PKU Shenzhen and Shenzhen Municipal Government sign the “Memorandum on Collaboration at the Peking University Shenzhen Campus”


PHBS begins recruitment for master's student candidates in the field of Journalism and Communication (Financial Journalism with a minor in Economy, Management, or Finance)

April 21: PKU Shenzhen deepens cooperation with Guangdong Province in the field of student training, self-dependent innovation, science and financial combination.

February: School of Advanced Materials established.

General Education Center was established.

December 13: School of Transnational Law at Shenzhen Graduate School was renamed as the Peking University School of Transnational Law.


March 1: Harvard Law School Associate Dean David B. Wilkins visits PKU Shenzhen School of Transnational Law (STL).

April 23: The cornerstone laying ceremony of Peking Drug Discovery Center is held at PKU Shenzhen.

April: The laboratory of Environment and Health in SEE sends a team to participate in the Shanghai World Exposition. The design for Xian Creative Garden International Horticultural Exposition, by PKU Shenzhen Professor Han Xili, is chosen to be displayed at the Shanghai World Exposition.


Pr. Christophe Simoni, former Associate Dean at Northwestern University School of Law in the United States, becomes Associate Dean of STL.


October 14: Peking University – HSBC Business School (PHBS) opens its international students admission program.

August: PHSB is recognized as a member of the AACSB. First step towards accreditation.

October 23: Founding of PHBS Alumni Association.


May 4: All the faculty and staff gather for the 110th annual ceremony of Peking University. Chancellor Wen Hai introduces PKU Shenzhen core values of “New Frontiers, Interdisciplinary Studies, Applied Research and International Standards.

May 15: RMB 430k are collected during a fund-raising ceremony at PKU Shenzhen as part of the disaster-relief for the victims of the earthquake in Sichuan.

July 17: Professor Wen Hai, Vice President of Peking Universityis appointed Chancellor of PKU Shenzhen. In October, Chancellor Hai was awarded the title of one of the 30th most influential figures in the development of Shenzhen.

August 30: HSBC Foundation donates RMB 150M to help building a world-class business school at PKU Shenzhen, which was henceforth renamed Peking University HSBC Business School.

October 22: Opening ceremony of the School of Transnational Law. 55 students attended for the first year of the program.


May 26: The PKU Shenzhen Forum, initiated by PKU Shenzhen and Shenzhen Special Zone Press Group, opens in Shenzhen Special Zone Press Tower.

September 27: The State Council Academic Degrees Committee approves the School of Transnational Law Juris-Doctor degree. The first class to be enrolled in September 2008.    

August 23: Launch of Peking University – University of Hong Kong dual Master Program in Economics and Finance.

October 14: The building of three key national laboratories is launched by Shenzhen and PKU Shenzhen government contributes by RMB 90M.    

June 18: First graduation ceremony of students having completed an entire program of study at PKU Shenzhen.    

PKU Shenzhen begins the establishment of its Shenzhen Business School.

September: PKU Shenzhen moves from its temporary campus in Shenzhen High-Tech Zone to University Town, where the first construction phase is completed.    

April: Establishment of main campus program extensions to Shenzhen.

September: First school year start for PKU Shenzhen students: they were 213 that year, including 3 Ph.D. students.    

January: Approved by the Ministry of Education in January 2001, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School was established through the cooperation of Peking University and the Shenzhen Municipal Government.
