On the evening of Thursday, April 30
th
, the Campus Community Advisors Program hosted its semesterly Calligraphy Charm event at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School. This event aims to expose international students to the art of Chinese calligraphy.
The Campus Community Advisors, or “CAs”, are a team of 8 Chinese students with a collective goal of aiding the international student population with daily life on campus and cultural integration. This particular event was led and organized by CA Candy Zhu, 诸洁芳 (Zhū Jié Fāng), who recruited assistance from her classmate, 黄颖 (Huáng Yǐng), who grew up attending calligraphy classes regularly.
Each student was provided with a station equipped with ink, brushes, practice sheets, traditional red paper, and a few snacks and drinks.
Candy and Huáng Yǐng gave a brief introduction on Chinese Calligraphy, proper form and grip, and then proceeded to demonstrate the basic calligraphic strokes. After much practice, everyone took to their red papers to write “中国你好” which translates to “Hello, China”.
Many thanks to the Campus Community Advisors Program for this event—especially to诸洁芳 and黄颖 for their hard work and patience!
