Freshman Cup: Football

On November 20, 2013, the “Freshman Cup” football final match was played between the PHBS International and the PHBS Tuhao teams. After 90 minutes of intense play, the PHBS Internationals emerged victorious with the final score of 5-1. With this the Freshman Cup came to an end. The PHBS International team remained undefeated throughout the tournament and conceded just 1 goal in the finals.
The ‘Freshman Cup’ was organized by Peking University Football Association with the purpose of promoting football in the PKU Shenzhen community as well as encouraging new students to actively participate in sports. A total of nine teams including PHBS Internationals participated in the league matches. After a series of hotly contested games, the PHBS International and the PHBS Tuhao teams reached the finals. The PHBS Internationals won with a wide margin of 5-1 with goals scored by Andre Georgi, Sergei Ivanov, Nathan Richter and others.
The PHBS Tuhao team was placed second while the team from the School of Electronics and Communication Engineering was placed third. PHBS International team bagged several individual prizes as well. Ivan Arias was named the Most Valuable Player, Konstantin Zayko, the best goalkeeper while Frederico Paolucci was the top scorer of the cup.
The Nanyan Football Association now is looking forward to organizing an even bigger tournament next year.
