Freshman Cup: Tennis

On October 12 and 13, the tennis matches for the Freshman Cup were held at the tennis courts of Peking University Shenzhen. The event was organized by Peking University Shenzhen Tennis Association and the sports department of PKU Shenzhen. A total of eight teams participated in the final rounds. These include two teams from HSBC Business School, School of Transnational Law tennis team, two teams from School of Electronic and Computer Engineering, School of Chemical Biology and Biotechnology, School of Urban Planning and Design and School of Environment and Energy. The format included singles and doubles matches for both men and women. Members of the Peking University Shenzhen Tennis Association acted as referees on rotation. To commemorate the spirit of sportsmanship, all participating teams were given souvenirs irrespective of the results.

After two days of intense competition, the team from School of Transnational Law emerged victorious while the team from School of Chemical Biology and Biotechnology were runners-up. Feng Quanlun from the School of Transnational law and Chen Hu from the School of Chemical Biology and Biotechnology secured the first and second place in men’s singles respectively while An Miao from the School of Chemical Biology and Biotechnology and Yang Xuewei from the School of Environment and Energy won the first and second place in women’s singles. The men’s doubles match was also won by School of Transnational law represented by Feng Quanlun and Qui Weijie and women’s doubles was won by School of Chemical Biology represented by An Miao and Chen Hu.

The event was extremely exciting with several awards being up for grabs. The cup also helped bridge cultural barriers by increasing interactions between Chinese and international students.
