On the morning of September 6th, PKU Shenzhen Graduate School began its academic year with the 2012 opening ceremony at the University Town Stadium. The school welcomed over 900 new first year students, including over 30 new international students. The ceremony began with opening remarks from Professor Hai Wen, Vice President of Peking University and Chancellor of PKU Shenzhen. Professor Hai urged the new students to take advantage of their time at PKU Shenzhen. He called for them to always remember to live up to the expectations of Peking University and carry a sense of social responsibility. Keynote speaker from the HSBC Business School, Professor Young Joon Park, echoed Professor Hai in encouraging students to plan ahead and have a clear plan for their futures.
First year student from School of Computer and Information Engineering, Yang Le, then took the floor to give a speech on behalf of all the new students. He was followed by Zheng Tianyuan from the School of Transnational Law, who presented on behalf of the current students.
With China’s national, “Teacher’s Day” approaching, the outstanding teachers and staff from the last academic year were recognized for their contributions. The ceremony ended with chorus performance from the first year students of HSBC Business School.
