PKU Shenzhen held a pep rally for the PKU Track and Field Competition

On the afternoon of April 17th, the pep rally for Peking University’s Track and Field Competition was held in the D building dance studio. Faculty members, staff and school leaders took part in the pep rally show their support of the student athletes. Vice President of Peking University, Chancellor of PKU Shenzhen,  Hai Wen, Executive Vice Chancellor of PKU Shenzhen, Shi Shouxu ,Vice Secretary of Peking University, Secretary of Party Committee of PKU Shenzhen., Bai Zhiqiang, Vice Chancellor of PKU Shenzhen, Li Guicai, Vice Chancellor of PKU Shenzhen, Director of the Chancellor’s Secretariat Office, Niu Hongwei, Vice Secretary of Party Committee of PKU Shenzhen, Director of the Students Service Office, An Xiaopeng, and several staff members from the Student Service Office, General Education Center and the HSBC Business School participated in the pep rally.

During the meeting, Zhou Lin, a student from the class of 2012 of the School of Urban Planning and Design, reported the competition preparation to the leaders and staff members. A group of 33 athletes was determined after tryouts on March 16th. On March 20th, a group of 21 students including many international students was organized to march and perform a dance number for the opening ceremony. Through their training, the athletes of PKU Shenzhen became a unified, cooperative and energetic team. Students participated in rigorous training sessions to prepare for the competition. The student athletes are convinced that they will not let the school down and maintain Peking University’s excellent tradition of individualism and competitiveness for the glory of PKU Shenzhen.

 After listening to report on the students’ preparation, Vice President of PKU, Hai Wen expressed his expectations and support to the students. He hoped that the athletes will have a good performance during the games, showing their strength and school spirit. Vice President Hai Wen pointed out that the team of athletes is from all over the world, representing the internationalization PKU Shenzhen. In addition, the school’s team mirrors the globalization of the Olympic spirit. Vice President Hai Wen wished athletes excellent results and hope that they will be able to successfully defend their championship title. On April 20th during opening ceremony of the competition, Vice President Hai Wen will be cheering for the athletes and witness the excellent performance firsthand. Afterwards, the students participating in the march of the opening ceremony also performed the opening ceremony dance led by the Hong Kong Nature Appreciation Society.
