PKU Shenzhen Singing Competition

On May 9th, the final round of the singing competition commemorating the 116th anniversary of Peking University was held at the International Conference Center. The final was sponsored by Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School Youth League Committee and was organized by the Graduate Students Union of PKU Shenzhen.

The competition was attended by Deputy Secretary General of Peking University and Secretary of Shenzhen Graduate School Party Committee Bai Zhiqiang and Deputy Secretary of Shenzhen Graduate School An Xiao Peng. The panel of judges was composed of Deputy Secretary of Shenzhen Singers Association Professor Du Yuanyuan, Professor in PKU Art Department Wang Chang Kui, representative from PKU Shenzhen training center Lou Jia and director of staff chorus team Zhao Yabo. The competition started with the chorus “Love is in my heart” followed by an extraordinarily ebullient speech by secretary Bai Zhiqiang in which he conveyed his regards and good wishes to Peking University and hopes for its splendid future.

The final was divided into three rounds. The first was the solo round with where the players had their ’90 seconds to fame’ and had to impress the judges by singing a song in 90 seconds. The top 10 singers were given the title ‘Campus Top Ten Singer” and moved to the next round. There was an intermittent performance by the Nanyan Art Troupe who danced to the tunes of ‘endless love for you,’ a truly marvelous performance that forced an already enthusiastic audience to almost leave their seats.

The second round named ‘help to sing’ was the duet round which was won by Wang Yushi, Zhang Xingxing, Chen Sijie, Zhang Tongwei and Tian Haonan who advanced to the final round. The final round required the chosen contestants to sing a complete song. The winner was chosen by the combined score of the judges and the popularity of the contestant on the internet. Wang Yushi won the championship with the song “I dreamed a dream,” while Zhang Xing, Xingang and Chen Sijie were runners up.
The competition came to a perfect conclusion with the award distribution ceremony followed by a group photo session with Secretary Bai Zhiqiang and others.
