PKU Shenzhen triumphed at the PKU Track and Field Competition

During the two-day PKU Track and Field Competition in Beijing, 33 athletes from PKU Shenzhen participated in 20 events. This year’s team was the largest team yet to represent PKU Shenzhen in the competition. The PKU Shenzhen athletes fearlessly competed and lived up to high expectations from last year’s triumph. They won first place with a total score of 312 points, over one hundred points higher than second place.
 
On the morning of April 19th, athletes from PKU Shenzhen took part in six events including long jump, women’s 100-meter preliminary, men’s 100-meter preliminary, women’s 1500-meter final, men’s 1500-meter final and shooting competition. In the women’s 100-meter preliminary, Liu Shu and Cai Jinyang earned their spot in the finals with a strong second place team finish. In the men’s 100-meter preliminary, Andreas Meider, an international student from Germany, proved himself as a top competitor for the PKU Shenzhen team. Kuang Yajie came in eighth place in the women’s long jump competition. PKU Shenzhen earned seventh place in the team shooting competition.



On the afternoon of April 19th, Yang Le represented the PKU Shenzhen team and won the fourth place in the first division of men’s 1500-meter. The PKU Shenzhen team also had great success in the women’s 1500-meter. Chen Dan, Wu Ying, and Yang Jun won the third, fifth and eleventh place. Chen Dan also performed well in the first division of women’s 5000-meter and won fourth place. In men’s 5000-meter, Peng Zhiwen won the forth place and Yuan Jinfeng and Wu Ying came in sixth and seventh place. In the first division of the women’s discus throw, Luo Yingying and Peng Yingfang won second and third place.

On April 20th the PKU Shenzhen team performed particularly well. Xu Chunhui achieved new heights in women’s javelin event by winning first place. In addition, Li Jingya came in third place. In the women’s 100-meter, Liu Shu and Cai Jinyang performed well by coming in fourth and sixth place. Andreas Meider came in seventh place in the men’s 100-meter event. In the final competition of men’s shot put, Jacob Wenzel and Liu Yang came in third and seventh place. Feng Yingying ranked fourth place in the women’s 400-meter. PKU Shenzhen had a particular good showing in the 400-meter event; Li Mengqiang claimed first place and Li Xiaozheng ranked in fifth. We ranked fifth in the women’s 100 meter relay race. In the team event of 30-meter-long “cyclone race”, the PKU Shenzhen team won first place. In discus, Xu Chunhui won the gold medal and Luo Yingying and Liu Xuanyu came in fourth and fifth place. In the 400 meter relay race, the men’s team won first place, while the women’s team won fourth place!

In addition to the students who participated in the competition, the whole PKU Shenzhen delegation worked together to represent the school and support the athletes. In the sports arena, you not only saw athletes competing, but also supporters cheering them to victory.
 
On the morning of April 20th, the opening ceremony of the 20th Track and Field Competition was held. The delegation of PKU Shenzhen was a group of 70 people comprised of international students, athletes and selected fall 2013 incoming students. With upbeat music and green and white uniforms, the PKU Shenzhen delegation proudly marched into the sports field. Their slogan illustrated our school pride in creating a world class international campus.

The delegation was led by Shi Shouxu, the Executive Vice Chancellor of PKU Shenzhen and Bai Zhiqiang, the Deputy Secretary General of PKU and Secretary of the Party Committee of PKU Shenzhen. The PKU Shenzhen delegation stood out by the international students that made up of nearly half of the delegation. This was the third time that representatives of international students took part in the PKU Shenzhen Track and Field Competition and also the largest team of international students in the opening ceremony.

The creative dance performance received much applause from the audience. The slogan of “Unleash Your Potential and Chase Your Dreams at PKU Shenzhen” embodied the unique spirit of PKU Shenzhen. After the performance, the delegation shouted aloud slogan of “PKU Shenzhen sets its sights on the world,” showing the school’s determination to become a world class international campus.



The annual Track and Field Competition was not only a big event for the school, but also a great opportunity for PKU Shenzhen to show its unique innovative spirit to main campus. This is the sixth time that PKU Shenzhen has participated and the second time to win first place. PKU Shenzhen, we are proud of you and we cheer you on!
