PKU Shenzhen Triumphs at PKU Track and Field Competition

On 25th and 26th of April, the annual Peking University Track and Field Competition was hosted by Peking University’s main campus in Beijing with the May 4th Stadium serving as the primary venue. 35 students from Peking University Shenzhen participated in over 20 events. The events were held over the course of two days.
The hard work and training put in by the PKU Shenzhen team to prepare for the events finally paid off with an impressive tally of medals and awards in almost every category. In the preliminaries, Wang Linghuan won the first gold medal for PKU Shenzhen and started a winning streak that saw no end with the audience and participant’s alike being stunned and mesmerized by the consistency of PKU Shenzhen athletes. Wang Linghuan’s gold in women’s long jump was followed by Wang Ye’s silver medal in the same event while Duan Xiaozhen stood seventh. In 100 meters sprint, Ma Jing, Lian Jing and Wang Lighuan sailed into the finals in the women’s category being placed first, second and third, while Andreas Meider entered the finals in the men’s category. In men’s javelin throw, Jacob Wenzel and Gregory Maillis won the first and second place while Guo Chao Yan was placed seventh.
The opening ceremony of the finals for the competition was held at 8:00am at the May 4th stadium. About 100 students from PKU Shenzhen attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was led by the Deputy Secretary General of Peking University and Party Secretary of PKU Shenzhen, Bai Zhiqiang. The audience cheered for the entire contingent of PKU Shenzhen with several Chinese and international students. Peking University Shenzhen performed extremely well in the finals living up to everyone’s expectations.
Andreas Meider and Jiang Weikai stood 4th and 7th in men’s 100 meters while Long Jushu stood 3rd in women’s 100 meters finals. Li Mengqiang stood 1st in men’s 400 meters finals while Andre Georgi and Jiang Weikai stood 2nd and 7th respectively. In men’s shot put final, Andre Georgi, Pauwel Adams and Tang Ho stood 1st, 2nd and 4th respectively. The same results were seen in every other category with Vicky Hannebauer, Xu Chun Hui and Li Jiang Ya winning the top three spots in women’s javelin.
The end of this year’s sports track and field competition marks seven years of consistent performance by PKU Shenzhen’s athletes. The entire PKU Shenzhen community hopes that this illustrious legacy is carried forward in the coming years with the new generation of students.
