Peking University Leadership Leads Delegation to GAC Group Headquarters for University-Enterprise Collaboration Research

To strengthen the deep integration between materials science and the new energy and intelligent connected vehicles, and to further enhance the university's scientific research innovation capability and talent cultivation quality in the field of new materials, on December 15, 2025, Zhang Jin, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Peking University, Executive Vice President, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led a Peking University delegation to visit GAC Group for research on university-enterprise collaboration. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions focusing on the deep integration of industry, academia, and research in the field of new materials and strengthening collaborative innovation between the university and enterprise.

The Peking University delegation toured GAC Group, gaining a focused understanding of its development history, industrial layout, core technologies, and cutting-edge products. They were deeply impressed by GAC Group's strong manufacturing heritage and continuous technological innovation capabilities. Subsequently, both sides held a symposium to discuss university-enterprise cooperation.

Feng Xingya extended a warm welcome to the Peking University delegation. He introduced the GAC Group delegation and gave an overview of the group's current development status, future strategic priorities, as well as the opportunities and challenges it faces in fields like materials science. He pointed out that materials science is the foundation for the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry. Peking University possesses strong research capabilities and talent pool in the field of new materials. He expressed hope that this visit could serve as an opportunity to explore the establishment of a long-term cooperation mechanism, jointly tackle key material technology challenges, and contribute to industrial upgrading.

Zhang Jin expressed gratitude for the warm reception from GAC Group. He emphasized that Peking University actively promotes interdisciplinary integration and organized research initiatives, committed to closely integrating cutting-edge basic research with major national strategic needs and industrial application innovation. This research visit aimed to gain an in-depth understanding of the practical needs of GAC as an industry leader. He hopes to facilitate substantial cooperation between basic research and industrial applications, achieving complementary advantages and mutual benefit for development.

Subsequently, Zou Ruqiang presented an overview of the Peking University College of Materials Science and Engineering and its industry-academia-research projects. He elaborated in detail on the college's historical evolution, discipline construction, faculty strength, research directions, major scientific research achievements, and models of industry-academia-research collaboration. The presentation showcased the college's research progress and potential application prospects in frontier areas such as advanced carbon materials, energy materials, and AI-driven research and development. During the free discussion session, participants from both sides discussed technical needs, potential cooperation entry points, the establishment of joint research projects, talent exchange and cultivation models, among other topics. They initially exchanged views and reached consensus on several potential cooperation directions.
