1,611 new students from across China and around the world
arrived on campus with dreams in their hearts.
Filled with anticipation for the academic journey ahead,
they officially began a new chapter at Nanyan Yuan.

Streamlined Registration, A Warm Welcome
On registration day, bright welcome flags and helpful signs could be seen across campus, creating a lively atmosphere. Inside the spacious registration hall, booths for each school were arranged in an orderly layout, with color-coded signs guiding every newcomer.
PKU Shenzhen's digital registration system received a comprehensive upgrade this year. After verifying their identity at a self-service kiosk using a mobile device or campus card, students could complete all procedures in one place, including information verification, facial-image capture, residence hall check-in, Party and Youth League affiliation transfers, and campus card activation. The streamlined process significantly reduced waiting times.
This year, the newly established School of AI for Science and School of Humanities & Social Sciences welcomed their inaugural cohorts, bringing fresh energy to Nanyan Yuan.
Information desks were set up inside and outside the registration hall to answer questions about course selection, campus life, career planning, and other matters important to new students. A clean and comfortable family lounge also provided a convenient place for accompanying family members to rest.
To make luggage transport easier, PKU Shenzhen stationed volunteers and shuttle buses at Peking University Station, connecting the metro station with the registration venue and helping newcomers complete the last mile of their journey to campus. Service tents along the main campus roads offered drinking water, directions, and emergency assistance, giving students a warm sense of welcome from the moment they arrived.
Careful Preparation, A Heartfelt Welcome
On registration day, PKU Shenzhen Party Secretary Tan Wenchang and Vice Chancellors Wang Tianbing and Niu Hongwei visited registration stations to review the work on site. Tan looked through registration materials, asked about each step of the process, and reminded staff to welcome every new student with attentive and enthusiastic service. The leaders spoke warmly with incoming students, encouraged them to pursue their aspirations in the academic journey ahead, and thanked faculty, staff, and volunteers for their dedication.
To ensure a smooth and orderly registration process for the 2026 cohort, PKU Shenzhen began preparations several weeks in advance under the coordination of the School's leadership. Administrative departments worked closely together and held multiple planning meetings, carefully refining registration routes, campus decorations, logistical support, and orientation arrangements so that every detail would be ready for the new arrivals.
After completing registration, students took shuttle buses to their residence halls. Over the following week, a comprehensive orientation program will feature a talk by an Olympic champion, group counseling, mental health education, first-aid training, the opening ceremony, and the popular First Run of the School Year, helping students settle into the Nanyan Yuan community in an engaging and supportive environment.
Before the main registration day, the School of Transnational Law and Peking University HSBC Business School had welcomed their new students in separate rounds on August 11 and August 24, respectively. International students from around the world arrived at Nanyan Yuan, bringing diverse cultural perspectives. Students with different academic backgrounds are now coming together, adding new momentum to academic exchange on campus.
New Encounters, New Voices
A dedicated photo area gave new students a place to mark the occasion. Holding their bright red admission letters, they posed with family members or newly met roommates, their smiles filled with anticipation for the future.
Across campus, volunteers carried luggage, gave directions, and answered questions. Even as their shirts grew damp with sweat, their enthusiasm never faded. Their tireless work was among the most heartwarming sights of registration day.
Voices from New Students
Meng Zihao from the School of Electronic and Computer Engineering is looking forward to the research journey ahead. Inspired by the School's strengths in integrated circuits and micro- and nanoelectronic devices, he hopes to pursue his studies with dedication and find his place in the next wave of information technology.
Sun Qingyue from the School of Chemical Biology & Biotechnology will begin her research as a direct-entry doctoral student. Supported by the outstanding platform of the State Key Laboratory of Chemical Oncogenomics, she is eager to explore drug discovery at the intersection of chemistry and biology and hopes to contribute to human health.
Lu Zijie from the School of Environment & Energy was deeply impressed by the ecological beauty of Nanyan Yuan. Against the broader backdrop of carbon neutrality and green development, he looks forward to drawing on the School's strengths in environmental science and energy, devoting himself to research, and contributing ideas to global sustainable development.
A Guangdong native, Lu Jingsheng from the School of Urban Planning & Design immediately felt at home among the trees and pathways of Nanyan Yuan. Confident in the School's expertise in territorial spatial planning and smart cities, he plans to devote his first two years to building a strong academic foundation and advancing through rigorous coursework and project-based practice.
Liu Xuan from the School of Advanced Materials was captivated by the lush campus scenery upon arriving at Nanyan Yuan. Excited by the School's frontier work in materials genome engineering and clean energy systems, he hopes to make progress in new energy materials. He is also looking forward to discovering food in Shenzhen that suits his tastes.
Ge Yunyang from the School of AI for Science will focus his doctoral research on the intersection of artificial intelligence and scientific computing. As a new frontier at PKU Shenzhen for integrating next-generation AI with fundamental science, the School has filled him with anticipation for the discoveries ahead. He hopes to keep pushing boundaries in Nanyan Yuan's vibrant academic environment.
Zhao Jiachen's connection with Peking University HSBC Business School began with a lecture during his undergraduate years. Listening to a PHBS professor discuss reform of China's capital markets, he was struck by the School's rigorous academic culture and broad sense of responsibility, qualities behind its reputation as the West Point of the business world. Returning to Nanyan Yuan as a graduate student, he has experienced firsthand PHBS's commitment to being rooted in China and connected to the world, as well as its vibrant academic environment. Having met many peers who share his interests, he looks forward to working with them to help build China into a financial powerhouse.
Dai Weiwei from the School of Transnational Law gained a great deal from the new-student ice-breaking activities. Guided by senior students, her group took part in creative team games. The experience underscored for her the importance of openness, inclusion, and a global outlook. Reflecting STL's commitment to developing globally competent legal professionals, the activities helped students build trust through communication and solve challenges through collaboration. She came away with a strong sense of community and looks forward to studying transnational law at Nanyan Yuan.
From the moment Nguyen Thi Huyen Trang arrived at Nanyan Yuan, she received generous help from faculty members and campus security staff. Their kindness was especially meaningful as she began her studies in a new country. A student in International Chinese Language Education at the School of Humanities & Social Sciences, she hopes to deepen her professional knowledge over the next two years and connect with experienced educators in Shenzhen.
Now is the time to dream, and the best years lie ahead.
