Campus Community Advisors Teach Calligraphy Charms

Date:

On the evening of October 26th, the Campus Community Advisor Program held an event to teach international students about traditional calligraphy charms, or 书法魅力 (shūfǎ mèilì). International students and Chinese students gathered in H building and learned a bit of history on Chinese script and the brush pen. Afterwards, students were given their own brushes, ink, practice paper and red calligraphy charm sheets. This event also provided some Chinese drinks and snacks, exposing international students to things they wouldn't ordinarily buy on their own at the grocery store.

The CAs, as well as a few other students, taught everyone the various brush strokes---emphasizing proper form and pressure. Students excitedly practiced the character "中" and eventually "福". Everyone went home with a couple calligraphy charms to decorate their rooms and their very own brush pen.  Many thanks to Campus Community Advisor Joey (颜家英) for planning the event, and Emerald, Qi, Alan, and David for helping out.
