2012 Commencement Ceremony

On June 23rd, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School held its 2012 commencement ceremony. This was a significant day for PKU Shenzhen as the Translational Law School, the School of Biology and Biotechnology, the School of Urban Planning and the HSBC Business School’s EMBA program all celebrated their first graduating students. This also marked the day of the first six international students graduating from HSBC Business School. 




Chancellor Hai began the ceremony by congratulating all of the graduates. He encouraged graduates to remember the innovative goals of PKU President Yan Fu. “I want to express my sincere hope that all of our graduates will exhibit their intelligence and abilities at the workplace and be brave to shoulder new responsibilities,” Chancellor Hai advised the graduates.  He promised the graduates that, “PKU Shenzhen will steadily continue working on reform and innovation, on internationalization, and on educating highly qualified students.” The Dean of the School of Biology and Biotechnology, Yang Zhen, echoed Chancellor Hai’s commitment to continue to develop and improve PKU Shenzhen. He urged professors and school leaders to “also think about your promises. How can our school develop faster and improve? How can we provide a better service to our professors and students? What contributions can we make to PKU and Shenzhen?”

On behalf of the first class of the HSBC Business School’s EMBA graduates, Zhang Gongjun, reminisced about his time with his fellow peers at the business school. He recounted being a young child attending a below-average school with dreams someday be a student a Peking University. Despite his teachers’ doubts, he never gave up on his goal. Now, as a member of the first graduates from the EMBA program, he sets an example for future EMBA students.  
           
Seven Students selected to represent their schools as outstanding graduates gave a joint speech expressing their gratitude to PKU Shenzhen. Dian Cahyadi from Indonesia represented the international students from HSBC Business School. She thanked her professors and staff members for, “their endless hours and passion to help building the Master’s program stronger and better than when we first entered this school.”

 Lastly, Chancellor Hai presented each graduate with their diplomas and conferred their degrees. He turned the students’ tassels, signifying that they were now graduates of PKU Shenzhen. Congratulations Class of 2012!
