On November 16, as part of the Xili Lake International Science and Education City Open Day, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School welcomed visitors for an engaging and educational campus tour. Highlights included a themed exhibition showcasing the achievements of PKU academicians and scientists.
Visitors also had the opportunity to explore various academic and research facilities, such as the School of Transnational Law, the Peking University HSBC Business School, the Experimental Animal Center, and the Guangdong Mangrove Engineering Technology Research Center. Additionally, leisure spaces like the pickleball courts and the Student Activity Center were open to the public, offering a well-rounded experience of campus life.
Themed Academician Exhibition
The themed exhibition highlighted the achievements of more than 100 Peking University academicians. Teenagers and children paused to learn about their inspiring stories of truth-seeking and scientific exploration.
Zhou Haoren, a grade-eight student from Shenzhen Shekou Middle School, shared his thoughts: “Visiting the themed academician exhibition at PKUSZ allowed me to learn about many academicians who have made outstanding contributions to our country’s development. They have become my role models.”

Meanwhile, the pickleball courts, tennis courts, and student activity center encouraged guests to fully immerse themselves in the campus sports culture through warm-up exercises and guided instructions.
A group of teachers and students from Nanhai, Foshan, also joined the Open Day. Reflecting on the experience, the team leader said, “Although it took two hours to get here, this trip allowed the children to truly experience the atmosphere and environment of Peking University.”
Children were especially captivated by the Guangdong Mangrove Engineering Technology Research Center. The site showcased the recent development of mangroves, along with mangrove samples and interactive installations for visitors. Among the highlights was a device simulating mangrove ecosystems, which drew the most attention.
Two volunteers at the site shared their observations: “The kids absolutely love these exhibits—they’re so enthusiastic! Here, mangrove species like Avicennia marina and Bruguiera gymnorrhiza give everyone a more intuitive understanding of mangroves.”
At the Laboratory Animal Center, visitors donned VR headsets to simulate the experimental procedures of scientific researchers.
Xiong Weijun, a student from Shenzhen Shekou Middle School, remarked, “This is my first time visiting PKUSZ, and I was blown away by the strong academic atmosphere here. It’s amazing! Using VR for experiments is so rare—it made me realize just how rapidly science and technology are advancing.”
Mr. Li, a local citizen who attended the event, shared his excitement: “I never expected to experience something this fascinating today. It feels like I’ve suddenly been brought closer to the world of scientists!”
