Three Professors were Invited to Attend the Reception for Foreign Experts

On September 27th, a reception to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China was held for foreign experts in various fields at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Chinese Vice Premier, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Part of China Central Committee, Ding Xuexiang, attended the reception and delivered a speech. Professor Philip McConnaughay and Professor Asif Qureshi from Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School (PKUSZ), and Young Joon Park, the Associate Professor of Peking University HSBC Business School (PHBS), were invited to attend the reception.

Professor Philip McConnaughay had previously attended the receptions twice.

From 2013 to 2023, Professor Philip McConnaughay served as the Dean of the School of Transnational Law and the Vice Chancellor of PKUSZ. Previously, he was the dean abd The Donald J. Farage Professor of Law at the Pennsylvania State University’s Dickinson School of Law. Professor McConnaughay has published many academic papers and books on international commercial dispute resolution. During his practice as a lawyer, he participated in many major antitrust and intellectual property disputes. He has also served as an expert advisor to the Indonesian government and actively participated in various public legal affairs.

Professor Asif Qureshi has decades of professional experience in academic research, teaching and global consulting, and is a leading authority in Public International Law and International Economic Law. He has been a tenured Professor at the University of Manchester, UK, and at Korean University of Korea. He has acted as a consultant for various governments and international organizations. As the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Manchester Journal of International Economic Law,he has published more than 80 articles/chapters/commentaries in international journals and books, and written 15 monographs and textbooks. His work has been widely cited, including in the work of international economic organizations and the WTO Appellate Body.

 

                    Associate Professor Young Joon Park

 

Associate Professor Young Joon Park has received the Peking University Yanyuan Friendship Award in 2021 and the first Guangdong Friendship Award in 2023.

Associate Professor Park joined PHBS in 2019 after earning his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, San Diego. He is one of the first foreign professors in the school and also the longest working foreign professor to date. During his work, he has served as the Dean’s Assistant and the Vice Chancellor of the PHBS.

Aiming to build a world-class university, PKUSZ is taking steps towards a research-oriented international institution. For this attempt, the proportion of foreign faculty members has remained at least 20% for many years at PKUSZ. In the future, PKUSZ will continue to encourage foreign experts and talents to come to China, and build bridges of international exchange.
