In response to the strong demand from faculty and students for improved dining services, the renovation of Yanyuan No. 1 Canteen officially began on May 1 under the coordinated planning of the Nanshan District Committee and District Government and the careful organization of the Taoyuan Subdistrict Office. After five months of construction, the canteen was ready to begin operations on October 8. The renovation involved a comprehensive redesign of the kitchen and food preparation areas, alongside upgrades to the ventilation, exhaust, drainage, and electrical systems, establishing a solid infrastructure for a standardized, high-quality dining facility. The dining area features a modern, minimalist design incorporating elements of Peking University’s cultural heritage and campus colors. The layout of dining routes and serving counters has also been optimized. Around 200 square meters of additional dining space have been added, significantly improving the dining environment and overall experience for faculty and students. Throughout the project, the Nanshan District Government and the Taoyuan Subdistrict Office provided strong support and worked actively to advance the renovation, demonstrating their commitment to supporting local higher education institutions and improving campus facilities and services.

The guests then toured the newly renovated canteen. The dining area is bright, clean, and spacious, with clearly organized circulation routes and neatly arranged food counters. A cultural wall themed “Yanyuan’s Heritage, Nanyan’s New Chapter” brings together the spirit and traditions of Peking University with the vibrancy of everyday campus life.

Looking ahead, PKU Shenzhen will continue to strengthen canteen operations and management, maintain rigorous food safety standards, and continuously improve food quality and service. The university aims to make the canteen a welcoming, high-quality space that enriches campus life, enhances the well-being and satisfaction of faculty and students, and provides reliable logistical support for talent cultivation at Nanyan Campus.
