PHBS is making Rapid Headway in International Cooperation (2)

As the Chinese Spring Festival is approaching, Peking University HSBC Business School has been witnessing tremendous development in cooperation with international institutions. In no small part through the help of Professor Gerhard Stahl, Secretary-General of the EU Committee and some other professors from Central Europe, International Cooperation at PHBS is making rapid headway.

After having visited the Headquarters of the European Union (EU), on 25th January Professors Chang and Huang visited the three Elite Universities in Berlin, Germany. At present, there are 11 German universities recognised as Elite Universities. In 2013, PHBSestablished cooperative relationships with some of the Elite Universities including Berlin Humboldt University, Free University of Berlin and the University of Cologne. Furthermore, PHBS has established academic partnerships with Bochum University and the Technical University of Berlin.

With the help of the Peking University Alumni, PHBS established ties with the famous School of Management at the Technical University of Munich.

On the third day, the pairs arrived in the second largest Portuguese city Porto and started with a visit toPorto University. They were warmly welcomed by Prof. António Marques, the Vice-Chancellor of Porto University and Prof. Ana Paula Africano, Deputy Director of the department of Economics and Management. Students and staffs from Porto Univesity had the opportunity to talk face to face with Professors Chang and Huang. During the meeting, the PHBS professors introduced the MA programme and the Chinese Study course respectively.By the end of the session, PHBS and Porto University had reached consensus on cooperation.

On 30th Jan., Professors Chang and Huang arrived in North Africa, beginningtheir visit with a trip to IHEC Carthage.This was to mark the first time that PHBS had expanded its cooperation programmes in the North African area. In the evening, Prof. Vincent Chang was invited to deliver a speech. Prof.SlimKhalbous, the Dean of IHEC Carthage, and Prof.FatmaKilani, HOD of IHEC Carthage were present, along with around 100 students and staff. After the speech, three Tunisian students studying at PHBS shared their overseas learning experience in China, which aroused students’ interest in overseas study.The audience displayed a high degree of enthusiasm and interest in Prof.Chang’s speech, and showed this enthusiasm by asking various questions. In order to express their appreciation, some parents of the students even invited Professors Chang and Huang to visit their homes as it was Chinese New Year when they visited IHEC Carthage.

On 7th February, on behalf of PHBS and as the only representative of Asian Universities, Prof. Huang attended the two-day academic seminars in Brussels organized by the European Voice. Many European institutions and hundreds of students participated in this event. During the event, Mr. Gerhard Stahl,Secretary-General of the EU Commission met with Prof. Huang, expressing his great thanks for PHBS’s support for the event and sending his New Year regards to the staff and students at PHBS.

During the seminars, on behalf of PHBS, Prof. Huang also visited Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management. Both sides reached a consensus on QTEM (Quantitative Techniques for Economics and Management)program. QTEM is a new network Master’s program which gives students the opportunity to spend two semesters studying at two leading business schools, and provides a wealth of teaching and internship opportunities for students.(For more details please go to: http://www.bi.edu/students/exchange/qtem-network-master-programme/ )

Prof. Huang also visited VrijeUniversiteitBrussel, exchanging his views with Prof. GustaafGeeraerts on the issue of the importance of Chinese Studies and EU Studies being applied in Business School teaching.Prof. Huang introduced PHBS’s international program and enrollmentsystem to the European students on the afternoon of Feb. 8th.

The goal of establishing cooperation between PHBS and universities in West Europe and North Africa was very successful. Many students from PHBS have already applied to go to Europe for exchange study, whereas many students from Europe have also applied to study at PHBS. Thisseries of visits has been greatly supported by Prof. Wen Hai, the Founding Dean of PHBS as well as all faculty staff and students.
