Yes. You are free to visit China, alone, with friends or with your family. Some areas/regions are under strict control at some periods, you should make sure that no part of your trip covers restricted areas and obtain prior approval from the Chinese authorities.
Also, please be aware that certain regions of China are seperate from the mainland. You must have a valid residence permit or remaining entry on your Chinese mainland visa to visit Taiwan, Hong Kong or Macau, because this is required to return to mainland China.
