PKU Shenzhen organized a series of Orientation Week activities to help incoming students settle into campus life, connect with their peers, and prepare for their graduate studies.
Finding Inspiration in an Olympic Champion’s Journey
On September 3, Olympic shooting champion Zhang Shan joined the Class of 2026 for a special talk titled “Start with a Dream, Become the Person You Aspire to Be.”
Zhang shared how her passion for sports began at age 13 and how, three years later, she chose to pursue shooting instead of taking the national college entrance examination. Despite limited training resources, she spent countless hours practicing the fundamentals, determined to improve.

Finding a Sense of Belonging Through Music
Music brought the incoming class together as PKU alumnus Fang Chen led students in learning Affection for Yanyuan, a beloved song associated with Peking University.
A former president of the PKU Student Choir, Fang introduced the song's origins and meaning, explaining how it has become a cherished part of the University's identity for generations of students.

Building Skills for Campus Life and Beyond
Orientation week also featured a series of practical workshops designed to help students navigate graduate life with greater confidence.
Students also had the opportunity to learn potentially lifesaving skills. In a hands-on training session organized by instructors from the Shenzhen Red Cross, they practiced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), rescue breathing, and the proper use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Instructors worked directly with small groups, helping students gain the confidence to respond in an emergency.

Growing Together, One Connection at a Time
Beyond lectures and large-scale events, orientation week also created space for students to connect on a more personal level.
At a group activity organized by the campus counseling center, students took part in icebreakers before working together on a creative project called the “Tree of Four Seasons.”
Using a variety of materials, they created artworks representing their hopes for growth and the future. More than 100 pieces will later be brought together in a cross-school exhibition, forming a collective “Forest of New Beginnings.”
Health checkups and library orientation sessions, including a dedicated session for international students, were also held during the week to help students access essential campus services and academic resources.

As the Class of 2026 begins its journey at Nanyan Yuan, these shared experiences offer a starting point for new friendships, personal growth, and academic exploration.
