PKUSZ and Racern Technology Establish Joint Laboratory for Electric Vessels

Date:

On September 30, 2026, Zhang Yueqi, Chairman of Shenzhen Racern Technology Co., Ltd. (Racern Technology), and Liu Hailong, Vice Chairman of the company, led a delegation to PKU Shenzhen. The two sides held a meeting to exchange views and jointly inaugurated the PKU Shenzhen–Racern Technology Joint Laboratory for Electric Vessels. Participants included Shi Lili, Director of the Office of Scientific Research at PKU Shenzhen; Chen Yingjie, Associate Researcher at the School of Advanced Materials and head of the joint laboratory; and other representatives.

The meeting in progress

During the meeting, Zhang Yueqi introduced the company’s development and business history. With more than a decade of experience in battery management systems (BMS) and electric vessels, Racern Technology is a leading domestic provider of electric vessel system solutions. Racern Technology has delivered nearly 1,000 electric vessel projects. Zhang noted that the electric vessel industry has significant growth potential, but continues to face technical challenges in areas such as battery state estimation, system reliability, and early warning of thermal safety failures. He expressed the hope that, by leveraging the research capabilities of PKU Shenzhen, the two parties could jointly address practical industrial challenges and contribute to the high-quality development of green shipping.

Shi Lili warmly welcomed the Racern Technology delegation and introduced educational mission of PKU Shenzhen, academic disciplines, scientific research, and technology transfer framework. She explained that PKU Shenzhen adheres to a development philosophy centered on problem orientation, North-South collaboration, AI-driven advancement, and innovative integration. The school is committed to letting real-world industrial needs guide scientific research, leveraging its strengths in fundamental research, and building a complete pathway from foundational innovation—from 0 to 1—to industrial application, thereby accelerating the commercialization of scientific advances. Since the beginning of 2026, PKU Shenzhen has established 15 university–industry joint laboratories. The establishment of this joint research platform with Racern Technology represents another example of mutual empowerment and collaboration between academia and industry.

Chen Yingjie outlined the development plan for the joint laboratory. In response to the needs of green shipping and the electric vessel industry, the laboratory will continue to advance research and engineering applications of key technologies for electric vessel traction batteries. Its research will be carried out in phases, covering areas such as fundamental battery state sensing, intelligent energy management, fault diagnosis, and safety early warning. The goal is to progressively develop an intelligent battery management technology framework tailored to real-world application scenarios. By combining PKU Shenzhen’s research strengths with Racern Technology’s expertise in engineering implementation and real-world applications, the joint laboratory aims to become a model of collaborative innovation between academia and industry in the electric vessel sector.

The meeting and exchange of views

The two parties held in-depth discussions on key technical challenges facing the electric vessel industry, collaborative research and development, and the practical application and commercialization of research outcomes. During the meeting, representatives from both sides jointly unveiled the plaque for the PKU Shenzhen–Racern Technology Joint Laboratory for Electric Vessels, marking the formal transition of their industry–academia–research collaboration into the substantive implementation stage.
