On the morning of August 27, 2025, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School gathered to mark the commencement of the 2025 academic year. The new cohort of students, brimming with ambition and passion, joined the Nanyan Yuan to embark on a new chapter of their lives.

The ceremony opened with a series of energetic performances that ignited the atmosphere, showcased the multifaceted talents and vibrant enthusiasm of the Nanyan Yuan, earning rounds of enthusiastic applause. Lin Zhiyi, a Master’s student from the HSBC Business
School’s class of 2023, urged new students to dare to dream without limits, dare to act by putting ideas into practice, act wisely by using all available resources, and succeed meaningfully by defining their own standards. She shared how the campus empowers students to explore, innovate, and redefine success on their own terms.
Lin Zhiyi
Assistant Professor Li Ling from the School of Urban Planning and Design encouraged students to excel with focus, cross disciplines and integrate knowledge, and value teamwork. She explained that Shenzhen Speed represents not just rapid growth, but also perseverance and collaboration, hoping students would pursue their ambitions and create remarkable stories on campus.

Su Zhiping, a Master’s student of the Class of 2025 from the School of Environment and Energy, praised the campus ethos of unity of knowledge and action, stressing that knowledge only gains value when applied. He emphasized the role of university collaboration in regional development and encouraged peers to take concrete action in line with the times, carry forward the May Fourth Spirit, and contribute to national goals with a sense of responsibility.

Dean Zhang Jin shared three messages for our times: first, break down academic boundaries and tackle real-world problems with interdisciplinary approaches; second, blend research with market awareness as technology and industry converge; third, embrace AI to transform research methods. He urged students to carry forward the university’s pioneering spirit, keep pace with the times, and dedicate their youth to building a better nation and world.

On the occasion of the approaching 41st Teachers’ Day, representatives of the new students stepped onto the podium to present flowers to faculty and staff members, including professors, counselors, class advisors, academic affairs officers, administrative personnel, security guards, and cleaning staff—expressing their deep gratitude and respect.
